Growing up my parents gave me the most priceless gift of a love for the Catholic Church while instilling in me “lifelines” back to Her through showing me the beauty of the sacraments, the Saints, you name it. 

Some days where time slips away from me, a child is always in need of your care, attention + love in whichever way in that moment and prayer like I once had isn’t on the table but by fully living out my vocations and being attentive to the ways the Lord is calling me in that exact moment is my prayer. Changing a diaper, nursing a child, doing the dishes, bathing a child is my prayer a lot of the time.

I came across this quote before Mason and I got married from Saint Teresa of Avila, “know that even when you are in the kitchen, our Lord moves amidst the pots and pans.”

My own parents were a beautiful witness of that in our home in many ways as I grew up. Showing us even in the mundane we can honor and serve the Lord and “Catholize our day” to which now Mason and I have adopted into our own home with our children. So, here are our favorite ways that we Catholize our everyday! When our own children finding joy in choosing the faith day after day even when we may not “feel” like it can be a witness to our children even when its hard!

1. Make the sign of the cross when you pass a Catholic Church
2. Say a prayer when you hear a siren
3. If you can’t make it to daily mass make a Spirtual communion
4. Add a personal touch to the end of Grace (we say a prayer for the faithful departed souls in purgatory)
5. Say a prayer “to” Saint Joseph before you begin work for the day
6. Pray a memorare everyday at 3pm or if you have more time say a divine mercy chaplet
7. Utilize holy water in your home! When we say bedtime prayers with the boys we bless each of them! Have your littles give a kiss to Our Lady + St. Joseph before you lay him down too!
8. Set an alarm at the exact time your child(ren) was/were born and pray for them! If your child was born early in the morning like “our” Fulton was, I set the PM time instead!
9. Always carry a rosary in your pocket (I don’t think my parents and now I’m are ever without one)
10. Do a little something extra to celebrate feast days in your home! A treat, a dish, reading at dinner, etc!
11. Wear a scapular, miraculous medal/Saint medal, or consecration chain, etc.
12. Decorate you home with Catholic art to remind yourself of Christ and His Church. We love having at least one crucifix in each room, along images of Our Lady!
13. Say prayers on the way to school, work, errands!
14. Pray a rosary together as a family often, even if its chaos – the Lord still hears our prayers.
15. Practice stewardship if your parish, volunteer for events, become a lector, have your boys try altar serving, be a greeter, or join a parish group.
